Admiral Raddus Fleet - On Your Left

Admiral Raddus Fleet - On Your Left

Let's start with the list itself, shall we? Quick note: If you're familiar with the most excellent Armada Fleets Designer app, then you'll be familiar with the format of the fleet list. If not, then you should know that the numbers in the parentheses next to the fleet name are as follows - number of points invested in squadrons/total number of fleet points/maximum number of fleet points.

Let me first say that this is a bad idea. Nay! A terrible idea!! Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I kinda can't wait to play it. Also, in my defense, I'm watching the Avalanche at Rangers game and since I played my first game of Armada in two months earlier this week, I just kinda felt like messing around in the fleet builder. It was a bit tough to think of anything at first, honestly, because I'm still excited about my Yularen fleet. But I like messing with different things until I'm set on a fleet I really want to know inside and out. My Wulff Pack fleet may or may not be that. Time will tell. But in the meanwhile, I've watched other folks fly a Rebel Providence, but never done it myself. So I thought I'd try for something like the fifth or sixth time to build something I liked around that ship.

I know the ship is slow and can use some help being ushered along, so I decided to drop it into the action using Raddus. I haven't flown Raddus since my Rebel two-ship fleet (wildly unsuccessful, but so much fun!) when the Starhawk first dropped. I also realized I've never posted a Raddus fleet here, so that's a bonus point in his favor to lead this terrible notion! Basically, I figure an MC-30 can pose a threat while still cutting in close enough to drop the Providence in a dangerous place. But it needs to do more than act as a delivery system, so I threw a pretty standard suite of upgrades on it: Foresight and Lando help keep it safe while Ordnance Experts and External Racks make sure it can unload on one or two victims while it breezes through the battle before running like hell. Good times.

"He's gonna tear himself in half?"

The Hammerheads are goofy. I almost certainly need to drop XI7s because why are they in there? I'm literally looking at that as I write this, saying to myself, "what the hell is happening there?" I'm probably better off with Slaved Turrets or something like that. I'm sure I had a reason why I chose XI7s, but present Chris doesn't know why past Chris made that choice and can't follow the reasoning. Possibly because it doesn't exist, or possibly because it's part of a plan so far-fetched that I'll need to fly this to remember what I thought *might* happen if I equipped XI7s. But to be clear, I still like the idea of the Hammerheads being part of a vanguard! They're cheap and can land a couple of punches while absorbing just a little more damage than is often anticipated. I've been a fan of Hammerheads since they dropped. They're honestly probably my favorite Rebel ship. I just haven't flown Rebels in quite awhile. I'll take any excuse to include them. In this case, the excuse is that they're cheap sources of fire with a nearly built-in reroll.

I've got a flotilla as an activation, as a way to activate my squadrons, and as a little Slicer Tools boat. Distracting and annoying, so why not? I don't suppose my squadron choices will prove viable and will probably strip down the Hammerheads so I can revert to my original 4 squadron idea: Wedge, Shara, Rogue Squadron, and a generic A-Wing. Or something akin to that. But I enjoyed a decent amount of success with Hondo and IG-88 in my Tarkin fleet, so I thought I'd try a similar strategy with Han and Corran. Corran gives me reach for specific enemy threats and Han can do a lot of work regardless of whether he is attacking a ship or a squadron. To be fair, I don't know that this is a similar situation; I had to go through several ace pairings with my Tarkin fleet before I found the ones I wanted and learned how to fly them in a way that maximized their potential in that build. But I thought this was worth a shot.

Finally, the Providence. I knew from the start I wasn't going to build this as a carrier, so that narrowed my choices a whole bunch. But I've never flown the Rebel Providence, nor have I flown against it. All I really *know* about it is what I read on Cannot Get Your Ship Out. So I took a bunch of Geek's tips and combined them in the way that I thought might prove to be the most fun. Especially because it features cards I like but haven't really used at all. Jyn and Rex combine for some mean little Raid antics that can prove frustrating if timed well. Especially if my Slicer Tools GR-75 survives and executes a timely approach. I was originally going to run with Kyrsta in the other Officer slot, but I'm not tossing any tokens with this fleet and my Providence won't have rounds 1 and 2 to bank them. So Raymus feels like the stronger choice to ensure I can actually use both Jyn and Rex, as well as then switch over to Engineering so I can get those extra shields up on my flanks. Since I'll be dropping in on top of my prey, I doubt I'll do much with the Evade; I might as well use Local Fire Control to turn it into a redundant Salvo.

And that's all I've got, y'all. My objectives are pretty straightforward: Most Wanted gets me extra dice at the relatively small cost of my flotilla, Hyperspace Assault allows even more Raddus antics, and Dangerous Territory should effectively result in my opponent effectively spotting me 45 points while taking damage in order to match it. I don't think this fleet will be particularly effective as built, but I do think it could be fun and might lead me in a fruitful direction. Hopefully, I'll have updates soon! But if I'm being honest, I'm really enjoying this Yularen fleet, so it might be a minute before I circle back to Raddus...
